Color Explosions

I am pretty sure that Florence Welch might be the most badass red head ever. I went to a Florence + the Machine concert this past fall and had a fantastic time. Seriously, she's an amazing performer, and very rarely have I ever seen someone so good at working a crowd. I am sure she drove security crazy because she kept jumping around and at one time she got off stage and ran around the entire inside auditorium, with big guys in black pants and shirts chasing and panting after her. By the end of the show I was so amped I was jumping around wishing it would never end. If you get the chance, I highly recommend you go to a show, however, be prepared to be surrounded by swarms of Stevie Nicks look-a-likes - and if they're not wearing flowing broomstick skirts, then they're going to be in flannel. There is no escape.

That being said, have you seen the recent article and photo shoot of Florence Welch's home in Vogue, Rock the Casa (see what they did there!)? I'm a big fan of her music, both her band and her side project, and just as big a fan of her home. Here are a few of my favorite rooms.

I have always wanted a sleigh bed and this one might be perfect. However, there are two reasons why this bed will never be in my life. First, it is pink with flowers, and entirely too feminine to be allowed into our apartment. Second, Tony has this weird idiosyncrasy where he needs his feet to stick out of the end of the bed. I don't understand it. I thought the whole point of having a California King was so that his feet didn't stick off the end of the bed...apparently, they need to be on the bed but not under the covers. I don't understand. That being said, I'm holding out hope. For the guest bedroom, at the very least.

I don't know what, but I am loving this bathroom. I think it's the blue tiles, which simultaneously remind me of my grandmother's 1960s bathroom and of the Aegean Sea, which I've never seen, but imagine to be about this color. Also, what is the point of having a regency(esque) chair next to your bathtub? Who sits in a chair next to the bathtub? Is it for your significant other, so that they can chat with you while you recline in a bubble bath? That seems a little odd and not very helpful with relaxation. Is it to set a book or towel on? Then why not just get a table. Is it so that you can sit in it and look at your tub, which may or may not be empty? I don't understand. And I don't really care, because it's pretty. Also, that window-shade.

I love the color explosion of this living room. I'm pretty sure I couldn't handle this in real life for any extended period of time, but there are a lot of individual items in here that I love - actually, I love all of them. I would love this in my home with white walls, I think. Also, that couch looks really comfortable, especially if you happen to have a boyfriend who snores so loudly that you regularly have to relocate to the couch in order to sleep.

This home is so eclectic and full of all sorts of random and odd things that a Renaissance Faire nerd would have in their home. I suggest you indulge your inner stalker check out the other photos.

Amazingly Affordable Gorgeous Engagement Rings

First of all, I think we can all agree that this is the shittiest week ever, at least if you live in the United States...particularly Boston or West, Texas. I mean, what the hell? That being said, I am going to post about something completely frivolous and optimistic in an effort to wash my mind of this weeks events, if only for a few minutes. So bring on the wedding chatter!

Tony and I  have been looking at engagement rings lately (Read: I've been looking at rings and sending them to Tony) and have decided that it might be more prudent to go thrifty on the ring...you know, so we can actually afford to get married. Not to mention all the other things in life we need to deal with, and by that, I mean pay for. I've been scouring the internet for the best and most beautiful deals and I think I've found an amazing selection. I've been looking for amethyst in particular, since it's my birthstone, but there are some really beautiful options out there.

In fact, all of these rings are well under a thousand dollars, so if you've got the cash, all of these would also make fantastic right hand or cocktail rings. I'd be lying if I didn't say I booked marked a few of these for when I have some spending money.

Birdcages, Not Just for the Birds

So, I've been looking around at wedding decor, centerpieces, themes, etc lately and have developed a deep and profound love for bird cages.  No, I'm not engaged...yet, but I do have friends who are jumping on that bandwagon as we speak and I'm all about being prepared. So, whilst looking for various spring and summer themes, I came across some lovely birdcages. They're just so pretty and romantic. Is it wrong to get a birdcage and fill it with lovely flowers instead of birds and their poo? Would having an empty bird cage be odd? Do I care? Perhaps I should try one of these other birdcage inspired decor ideas...

A lovely centerpiece

How about this in your backyard? I think this is actually a butterfly garden or an avery? Gorgeous, regardless.

Hm, this one seems like a fire hazard.

Very pretty...not so useful? Maybe when I have a home large enough to have substantial decor and conversation piece?

This doesn't look like it, but this is actually a cross stitch. I think it's quite adorable, how cute would it be in a bathroom or a little kids room? I have some mounted specimens, maybe this would be something nice to mix in with the display to offset the creepy, nerdiness?

I like this whole tablescape - white cage, flower lights, mercury flass candle holder. So pretty!

Mani...Wednesday! Blingy Pink Leopard Kiss Nail Dress Strips

I haven't posted a manicure in quite some time, but I finally got off my butt to do a proper manicure. I really like the Sally Hansen nail strips and while I was at Walmart picking up some cough medicine (because I am STILL sick) I got distracted by the Kiss Nail Dress strips, specifically in Nouvea aka Cocktail. No surprise, since as as I get older I find myself turning into my grandmother: No sparkly object is safe.

Kiss Nail Dress in Nouveau aka Cocktail
I thought that the strips were hot pink strips on a light pink background, so I tried to find a polish that would coordinate. I didn't have any at home so I picked up Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Hard-Core Party #160 because 1). it kind of matched and 2). it was really cheap. Well it turns out that the nail strips theselves were actually clear...so my plan for coordination didn't really work, but I do like the color.

So here's my opinion on both:

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Hard-Core Party - A pretty light pink that would work really well for a french manicure. However, it's a sheer, streaky polish and I needed to use 3 coats for it to be opaque. Even then, it wasn't perfectly streak free. However, for a few dollars, does it really matter?

Kiss Nail Dress Strips (in Nouveau) - No where near as good as the Sally Hansen nail strips. They are very thick and rather unmanageable. I also had trouble getting them to stick to my nail bed even though I very thoroughly cleaned my nails with acetone. Even though I spent quite a bit of time smoothing and filing, I still had wrinkles that wouldn't be smoothed and I had a lot of difficulty in filing off the excess - it did not want to separate and the edges were rather rough when they finally tour away. In the end, I wouldn't purchase this brand again unless it was for an accent. I imagine they won't last long on my nails, whereas the Sally Hansen strips were easy to apply and lasted well over a week, and, in my opinion, definitely worth the extra $2.
